So a Shoe Walks into a Saloon...

*Click to enlarge picture.
So a shoe walks in to a saloon confidently, twirling its large black mustache between its laces. That shoe had reason to be confident. It was one of the largest trend items this side of the Mississippi, the child of two of the most rootin' tootin' designers in the Wild West, Thakoon and Giuseppe Zanotti.

What was the peep-toe bootie lookin' for? It was a-lookin' for a posse. To conquer fall wardrobes one by one, it'd need help.

At first the situation was mighty tense, everyone enjoying their debauchery at the saloon sensed this heel might be hostile. However, the loner managed to rustle up a rag-tag team lookin' for adventure.

And away they rode into the sunset, lookin' very complementary if I do remember rightly.

Leather Shorts: An Ode

* Click to enlarge picture.

Oh short that hath been crafted from leather,

so elegant and yet formidable art thou;
I would wish to own you, yet have not the means
I also lack the means to end this poem, and so it ends now.

This O.O. (Orbital Outfit) is a double-whammy, because I must admit, though is there always a "right" way to wear an item, outfits must be tweaked depending on the circumstance. Basically, what I have done is upped the sex-appeal on the night outfit, and kept it to a professional minimum in the day outfit. It is, of course, possible to use the outfits inter-changeably- far be it from me to hold one sexy girlfriend back. But leather shorts are leather shorts after all, either way you'll be looking like one hot tamale stepping out in these babies.

To Hoo-m it May Concern:

I've always been predisposed to liking fancy, detailed purses. To me, the question is, why not? Some parts of the outfit are meant to be bases by nature. Pants usually fill this role. Blouses can fill this role. And jackets.
But purses? They're meant to be decorative.
In fact, they can verge on being tacky and kitschy while still being ultimately cool. Take this Mary Frances metallic hand-held purse. It is virtually an owl. What other item could disguise itself, in full, as an owl and still pull it off? Only the purse. That's why the purse is the perfect subject for an orbital outfit. It just draws other items into its orbit. That's what happened with these ones, I spent no more than a couple of mementos and these items fell straight into place. Ah, the cosmos of fashion. Hoo hoo hoo can resist?

When Glasses Speak: The Franco Sarto Story

When I saw this pair of Franco Sarto sunglasses, I first thought; "Oh, nice trendy glasses" Then I realized that before that moment, I would have never thought to make an O.O. (Orbital Outfit) centered around these babies. But WHY NOT? They have just as much personality as any other item of clothing: you just have to listen a little harder! It's like people who are naturally less outspoken than others, it's not as if they have less to say. So then I thought, well, I better change avec les temps (that's French for "change with the times", by the way) because right now is all about the restrained, the minimalist and the less outspoken. Cream, beige and nude tones? So hot right now. Black? YES YES YES. Charcoal gray, tweed? Need I exaggerate how much I can possibly agree with that statement? I think not.
So here it is, an outfit where subtle speaks. Hush, I'm listening.
....it says: I like classy artsy things, like this Giambattista Valli dress. I also like things that pop unexpectedly, like these L.A.M.B. platform oxfords. And, lastly, I just like things that complement me, like this Miu Miu clutch, Avalaya cocktail ring and Louis Mariette headband.
I know you do, Franco Sarto sunglasses, I know you do.

Item of the Week: White Cut-Out Vest by Barlow

I found this item of the week hiding deep in the fashion wilderness of shopbop.com. It took some scrounging, once on the website I actually had to press in the middle of my computer screen with my mouse-tool to enter the featured items page. But once done, the website yielded to me some wonderful leather goods which I quiet enjoyed. None did I enjoy more, however, than this marvelous Barlow vest:
Any hink-de-dink, once I saw this spectacular beast, I started wondering how one might best wear this. Needless to say it is now the orbital outfit of the week. I do believe that there is only one truly right way to wear an item of clothing, one that compliments it and only it. One in which all the other items in the outfit are, in a sense, orbiting around it. That's what I've tried to do for this poor lonely Barlow vest, I've tried to find it some truly complementary companions. Here are the friends I've found:
(Note that the dress is totally backless, allowing for the vest's sexy pattern to shine!)

"...Who's the greatest of them all?"

So starts many a good night. Especially when the mirror has the magic ability to speak and survey the kingdom and replies "Why you m'lady!" (Which it often does).

We owe this classic line to a certain musical fairy tale called Snow White. I, the Popster, have much in common with the protagonist of this particular story. For one, I'm pale- or 'fair'. Two, I have blue eyes. Three, I live with seven old dwarfed men, whom I call by catchy nicknames.

The reason I bring this up is because spring, with the reappearance of chirping birds and snow-bells sprouting through the grass is very conducive to the thoughts of whimsy and magic. Of course, this is transferable to fashion. I feel extensively weird saying this (really, just all through my nerve system, very strange) because I'm usually very down with the avant garde mods, but ya know, shit happens and all of a sudden you're feeling all frilly and shabby genteel and like you'd like to ride a pony over a drawbridge etc. etc. etc.

Above is an outfit built around the delightful Darcy Miro for Unholy Matrimony cuff that resembles a crudely-made paper crown. It's sort of a modern look to indulge your inner princess/queen/fairy/dwarved old man (depending on your fancy).

And henceforth there shall be enjoyment.
